Getting around
The car is the most convenient way to explore Nea Propontida and reach different beaches and towns, especially outside the built-up areas. The main roads connect the area to Thessaloniki and the rest of the Halkidiki peninsula; in summer, however, traffic can slow down travel. Intercity KTEL buses serve some destinations, but routes and frequency vary by season: check the updated timetables before you set off. In the more compact centers, it’s easy to get around on foot, while taxis and rental cars can be useful for short trips or for getting back in the evening.
When to go
From June to September, the climate is ideal for the sea and most tourist services are open, with July and August being busier and hotter. June and September are often a good compromise for enjoying the beaches with pleasant temperatures and fewer crowds. Spring and early autumn are suitable for walks and sightseeing, but some facilities may have reduced hours.
Where to eat
In the coastal towns and villages you’ll find tavernas and seafood restaurants, while in the inhabited areas it’s easy to find home-style Greek cooking and grilled dishes. Look for local products and seasonal specialties, asking what the day’s suggestions are: the catch and the menus can change. In high season, it’s a good idea to book dinner at the most popular places.
