Getting around
The center of Missolungi is flat and easy to get around on foot; a bicycle is convenient for short trips. To reach the lagoons, the salt pans, and the surrounding area, a car offers greater freedom. Taxis are useful for local journeys, while KTEL buses connect the city with other destinations in the region: check timetables and frequencies, which may vary. To visit the wetlands, find out which roads are accessible and respect the marked paths.
When to go
Spring and autumn are pleasant times to explore the city and the lagoons, with generally mild temperatures. In summer it gets hot and the sun can be intense, so it’s best to plan outdoor visits for the morning or late afternoon. Winter is quieter, but it can be rainy: bring suitable clothing and check the forecast.
Where to eat
In the tavernas and local restaurants you can try fish and seafood from the lagoon, as well as avgotaraho, the traditional bottarga of Missolungi. Also look for dishes from traditional Greek cuisine and ask which products are fresh that day. To find a good place, see where the locals eat and check opening hours in advance, especially outside the high season.
