The white volcanic rocks, smoothed by wind and sea, create an almost lunar landscape. It is one of the island’s most iconic spots, especially striking in the morning light.

One destination.
A thousand ways to live it.
Milos is a Cycladic island renowned for its volcanic coastline, crystal-clear waters, and villages of colorful houses overlooking the sea. Between scenic beaches, archaeological sites, and secluded coves, it offers a journey rich in landscapes and history.
Worth seeing, worth remembering.
Milos Catacombs
This early Christian funerary complex, carved into the rock, is among the most important in Greece. The galleries tell a significant part of the island’s ancient history.
Ancient Theater of Milos
Overlooking the gulf, the theater dates back to the Hellenistic period and was later remodeled by the Romans. The view of the sea and the hills makes the visit especially evocative.
This picturesque fishing village is famous for its syrmata, the little seaside houses with brightly colored doors. It is a must-see stop, especially at sunset.
Accessible mainly by boat, this bay on the southwestern coast is famous for the arches and caves carved into the volcanic rock. Its clear waters invite swimming and snorkeling.
The island’s capital is a maze of narrow lanes, whitewashed houses, and lively little squares. From the Venetian castle, you can admire sweeping views of the sea, especially beautiful as the sun goes down.

A well-planned trip.
Getting around
Adamas is the island’s main transport hub: buses depart from here for places like , Pollonia, and some beaches, but frequency and connections vary depending on the season. To explore the island more freely, you can rent a car or a scooter; book ahead in the summer months. Roads to some beaches are unpaved or narrow, so drive carefully and check road conditions. Taxis are available, but they can be scarce during peak periods. To reach coves and sea caves, consider boat trips departing from Adamas or other ports.
When to go
From May to June and from September to early October, you’ll find pleasant temperatures, inviting seas, and fewer crowds than in peak season. July and August are ideal for beach days, but they bring more visitors and generally higher prices: it’s worth booking accommodation and a car in advance. In spring and autumn, some services may have reduced hours. The meltemi can blow in summer and affect crossings and boat excursions.
Where to eat
Adamas, , and Pollonia offer several tavernas and restaurants, while in the smaller villages the choice can be limited: check opening hours, especially outside the high season. Try local specialties such as pitarakia, small cheese-filled pastries, and ladenia, a flatbread with tomato and onion. At seaside restaurants, fish and seafood are common, often served according to the day’s catch. In high season, booking dinner in advance is a good idea.
Quick tips
- 01Check the updated bus schedules: they can change between high and low season.
- 02Book accommodation and a vehicle in advance if you’re traveling in July or August.
- 03Bring water, a hat, and sunscreen: many beaches have few facilities and little shade.
- 04Before setting off on a boat trip, check the wind conditions and whether the excursion is still confirmed.
Wake up in the right place.
