Getting around
Metsovo is best explored on foot: the center is compact, but the cobbled, sloping streets require comfortable shoes. By car, it can be reached via the Egnatia Odos highway, with clearly signposted exits; during busy periods, it’s best to leave the vehicle in the designated parking areas and continue on foot. If you’re arriving without a car, check bus schedules from Ioannina in advance, as services can be limited. To explore the surrounding area, a car offers greater flexibility.
When to go
Spring and autumn are ideal for strolling around and discovering the mountain landscapes, with generally pleasant temperatures and striking colors. Summer is cooler than the coastal areas, but it can be lively on weekends and during holidays. Winter brings a charming atmosphere and, with snow, opportunities for winter activities, but temperatures are low and road conditions can change: check the forecast before you set off.
Where to eat
In the tavernas in the center, you can sample traditional Epirote dishes such as savory pies, grilled meats, and local cheeses, including Metsovone.
