Getting around
To visit Mantoudi, Limni and Aghia Anna with freedom, a car is the most convenient solution: the towns are connected by roads that cross hilly areas and travel times can be longer. Local buses do exist, but services can be infrequent, especially outside the summer season; check the schedules before setting off. From the port of Kymasi, near Mantoudi, ferry connections depart for some of the Sporades islands, with varying frequencies depending on the season. Check timetables and availability in advance and allow extra time to reach the port.
When to go
From May to June and from September to early October you will often find pleasant days, fewer crowds and temperatures well suited to exploring both the inland and the coast. July and August are ideal for the sea, but hotter and busier: it is best to book accommodation and arrange transport in advance. In spring and autumn some tourist services may have reduced hours; in winter the weather is cooler and rainier.
Where to eat
In Limni, look for the tavernas along the seafront for fish and Greek dishes, while in the inland villages it is easy to find places serving home-style recipes and seasonal ingredients. In Aghia Anna, ask for the daily specials and consider stopping at tavernas near the coast. Menus and opening hours may change outside the high season, so it is useful to check before heading out. For a more local experience, try cheeses, honey and other products from Evia.
