One of Kastoria's most famous Byzantine churches, it is recognized by its dome decorated with a rare depiction of the Trinity. The frescoes and its location in the historic center make it a must-see visit.
Overlooking the lakeshore, the monastery dates back to the 11th century and preserves frescoes of great value. The peaceful path leading there offers beautiful views of the water and the surrounding mountains.

How to get around
Kastoria’s center is easy to explore on foot, especially along the lake and through the streets of the historic Doltso district. Keep in mind that some streets are steep and uphill. To reach places and attractions outside the city, a car offers more freedom; bus connections can be less frequent. In the city, you can also use taxis, which are handy for shorter trips or when you have luggage.
When to go
Spring and early autumn are ideal for strolling along the lakeside promenade and visiting the city in generally mild temperatures. In autumn, the colors of the forests around the lake make the landscape especially picturesque. Winter can be cold and damp, but it brings a peaceful atmosphere; in summer the days are warmer, while still pleasant near the water.
Where to eat
Look for tavernas in the historic center and those overlooking the lake, where you’ll often find Macedonian dishes and local specialties. Dishes worth trying include fasolada, savory pies, and freshwater fish dishes when available. For a casual meal, look for places popular with locals and ask what the daily specials are.
