Istiea
The main hub of northern inland Evia, Istiea is a pleasant place to explore, with squares, cafés, and streets animated by everyday life. It’s a good base for visiting the villages and beaches in the area.
Oreoi Castle
The remains of the medieval fortress overlook the coastal village of Oreoi and tell the story of the strategic importance of this stretch of coast. The visit can easily be combined with a walk around the harbor.
Oreoi Marble Bull
This large ancient sculpture, found in the area and now displayed on the waterfront, is one of Oreoi’s most recognizable symbols. Stop to admire its details and enjoy the view over the harbor.

How to get around
To explore Istiea, Aedipsos, and the villages in northern Evia, a car is the most practical option: the distances are wide, and public transport can be infrequent. Aedipsos is connected to the mainland by ferries to Arkitsa, while services to Glyfa depart from Agiokampos. KTEL buses serve some parts of the island, but it’s a good idea to check timetables and routes before setting off, especially out of season. In town, you can get around on foot and, for short trips, take a taxi.
When to go
Spring and early autumn are ideal for visiting the area, with mild temperatures and fewer crowds. Summer is the liveliest time, perfect for the beaches and the thermal springs of Aedipsos, but it can be hot and requires booking ahead during peak periods.
