Church of Saint Nicholas (Agios Nikolaos)

Standing high above the village, it is linked to the memory of the sailors of Psara and to the departure of Konstantinos Kanaris for his famous naval feat. The climb rewards you with beautiful views of the harbor and the sea.

Mavri Rachi Memorial

This monument commemorates the resistance of the islanders during the destruction of Psara in 1824. Its scenic location invites you to stop and retrace one of the most intense chapters in the island’s history.

Monastery of the Dormition of the Virgin (Panagia)

The monastery is one of the island’s most significant religious sites and preserves a tradition tied to the history and faith of the local community. The visit also offers a peaceful moment away from the harbor.

Archaeological Site of Archontiki

In the Archontiki area, traces of an ancient settlement and its necropolis can be found. It is an interesting stop to discover the more remote roots of Psara, alongside its modern history.

BEFORE YOU GO

A well-planned trip.

Getting around

The built-up area and the port of Psara can be easily explored on foot. To reach beaches and more distant spots, find out about renting a vehicle or arranging a ride: services may be limited. Don’t rely on frequent public transport connections, and check the available options in advance. If you’re driving, keep in mind that roads outside the center may be narrow or unpaved.

When to go

From June to September you’ll find the most suitable weather for the sea and generally sunny days, but in midsummer the island can be busier. May and October are pleasant alternatives for a quieter visit, bearing in mind that some services may have reduced hours. Before you travel, check the forecast and any changes to ferry connections, which can be affected by the wind.

Where to eat

The tavernas and venues in the center are the main reference for eating; look for fish dishes and Greek specialties made with local ingredients. The selection may be limited and opening hours can vary by season, so ask for advice locally and check in advance if you want to dine at a specific time. During quieter periods, it’s also useful to check that day’s opening times.

Quick tips

  1. Check ferry times shortly before departure and allow extra time in case of delays or changes.
  2. Book accommodation and travel well in advance during the summer months: availability on the island can be limited.
  3. Bring cash and check before you leave which services accept card payments.
  4. Pack sunscreen, water, and a light jacket: the sun is strong and the wind can make evenings cool.
