The day explores some of Kasos’ distinctive faces: the center of Fri, the nearby Old Port of Bouka, the houses and alleys of Agia Marina, and the bay of Helatros. The plan combines walks, a lunch break, and free time by the sea; distances and road conditions may make a little flexibility useful.

Day 1 – From the capital to the southern coast

10:00–21:00 Light walks and car transfer

Discover Fri and the nearby villages before spending the afternoon in the bay of Helatros.

10:00

Fri (Capital)

Set aside about an hour for a walk through the center of Fri, taking in the traditional houses, narrow lanes, and everyday life of the island’s main settlement. It’s a good place to get your bearings and buy water or a snack before continuing on foot to the port. Visiting the public areas is free; coffee or drinks may cost roughly 2–5 €.

Wear comfortable shoes and bring cash: services on the island can be limited.

11:30

Old Port of Bouka

Reach Bouka on foot in just a few minutes from Fri and spend about an hour taking in the small harbor, the boats, and the outline of the buildings facing the water. The walk is pleasant at an easy pace, leaving time for a photo stop and a break in the shade. Access to the harbor is free; for a coffee or a soft drink, expect about 2–5 €.

Watch out for wet or uneven surfaces near the edge of the harbor.

13:00

Village of Agia Marina

From Bouka, reach Agia Marina with an uphill walk of about 25–35 minutes, checking on site for the most convenient route; alternatively, you can use a taxi or a car. Spend about an hour and a half exploring the village’s alleys and viewpoints, then stop for lunch in a taverna: a simple meal can cost roughly 12–25 € per person, drinks excluded or included depending on your choice. Return to the vehicle and allow for a transfer to Helatros of about 25–40 minutes, to be confirmed depending on the road and conditions.

If it’s hot, consider taking a taxi for the uphill stretch and ask locally about road conditions to Helatros.

16:00

Helatros Beach

Reach the bay by car or with a prearranged taxi: the final stretch can require caution, so drive slowly and check the road surface conditions beforehand. Spend the afternoon here swimming, relaxing, and admiring the coast; bring water, sunscreen, and everything you need, as available services may vary. Access to the beach is generally free; allow around 3–8 € for drinks or small purchases, if you find a place open. Leave enough time to make it back to Fri by evening.

Do not count on frequent connections: arrange the taxi in advance or make sure you have a car and enough fuel.
