In Ios, Gialos port and are connected by a short road that can also be walked if you don’t have heavy luggage. In season, buses reach and several beaches, but frequencies and timetables change throughout the year: check them on site. To explore coves and less-served areas, you can rent a car or scooter, being careful on the narrow roads and bends. Taxis are available, but in high season it’s best to book them in advance.
From May to October, the climate is suitable for beach days; June and September often offer a good balance between pleasant temperatures and fewer crowds. July and August are the liveliest months, with more services and nightlife, but also higher demand for accommodation and transport. In spring and autumn, some activities may have reduced opening hours.
In and around Gialos port you’ll find tavernas, cafés and spots for quick meals; in high season it’s wise to book for dinner.
