Guide to Inousses
INOUSSES · ITINERARY

Oinousses (Chios, North Aegean, Greece) in 3 days – Complete itinerary

3 days / 2 nights · Maritime heritage, spirituality, beaches, walks

The itinerary begins in the port area of Oinousses, where the island’s seafaring memory and daily life come together, and continues to the Monastery of Evangelismos. The second day is dedicated to the beaches of Bilali and Marmaro, with a return to the village for the church of Agios Nikolaos; the last combines the Egnoussa seafront with Alyki Beach. Distances on the island are short, but for the more secluded bays it is advisable to check road conditions on site and arrange transportation in advance.

Day 1 – Port, maritime memory and monastery

10:00–18:00 Light walks and a short transfer

Discover the link between Inousses and seafaring, ending the day in a quiet place outside the center.

10:00

Monument to the Unknown Sailor

Start at the port and spend about 30 minutes on the monument and the view over the boats and the channel toward Chios. It’s a short walk from the main settlement; access to the area is outdoors and generally does not require a ticket, while any expenses depend on purchases at nearby venues.

If you arrive by ferry on the same morning, leave some extra time for possible schedule changes.

11:00

Oinousses Maritime Museum

Reach the museum on foot from the port and allow about 60–90 minutes to view ship models, photographs, and records of the island’s shipping tradition. Admission may be free or paid; budget roughly 0–5 € and check availability, opening hours, and prices on official channels before your visit.

If the visit is unavailable, use the time for a break in the center and continue the program without adding any other stops.

14:00

Monastery of Evangelismos

After a lunch break in the village, arrange transport to the monastery: consider a taxi or an agreed ride, or a walk only after checking the distance and trail conditions. Allow about 60–90 minutes for the accessible areas and the peaceful setting; for any donations or contributions, budget roughly €0–5, and check in advance the visiting arrangements and official guidance.

Modest clothing and respectful behavior are appropriate; transport and any access should be confirmed locally.

Day 2 – Bays and church in the settlement center

09:00–18:00 Beach day with transfers to plan

Alternate time on the beach with a visit to the church, while keeping a long break during the hottest hours.

09:00

Bilali Beach

Reach the bay with transport arranged in advance or on foot only after checking the route, elevation change, and timing: the walking time can vary depending on your starting point. Set aside about two hours for swimming and a walk along the shore; beach access is generally free, while any services or refreshments may cost around €5–15.

Bring water, sunscreen, and shoes suitable for the terrain, which may be uneven.

12:00

Marmaro Beach

Continue to Marmaro with a short transfer only if the road conditions and vehicle make it possible; otherwise, arrange your return and a new transfer with a local driver. Set aside about two hours for the bay and for a picnic lunch or a meal in the village; access is normally free, but factor in €5–15 for any refreshments or rental equipment, if available.

Do not assume there will be shade, refreshment stops, or beach facilities.

16:00

Church of Agios Nikolaos

Head back to the village center and visit the church at a relaxed pace for about 30–45 minutes, taking in the architecture and visible decorative details. The visit does not necessarily require a ticket; any donations are optional and of any amount. Check on site or through official channels for access arrangements and any visitor rules.

If the church is not accessible at the time of your visit, respect the posted notices and treat the stop as an external visit.

Day 3 – Seaside stroll and final beach stop

09:00–15:30 Relaxed pace, with flexible return

End the stay with a walk along the waterfront and a few hours by the sea before departure.

09:00

Egnoussa Seafront

Spend about an hour strolling along the seafront, watching the harbor, the boats, and the town’s everyday rhythm. This stop pairs easily with breakfast or a coffee, with an estimated spend of 3–8 € depending on what you have; there is no ticket required for the public promenade.

Check the ferry departure times before heading away from the center.

11:00

Alyki Beach

Reach Alyki with an agreed local transfer, leaving enough time to get back to the port; travel time and vehicle availability depend on your departure point and the season. Allow two or three hours for swimming and a break, and bring water and snacks with you; beach access is generally free, while any food or services may cost roughly 5–15 €.

If you are boarding the same day, arrange your return transport in advance and head back with plenty of time to spare.
