Day 1

From the port to the alleys of Chora

10:00–21:00 Easy walks, with a short transfer

Discover the seafront of Karavostasi and the Cycladic and medieval character of Chora.

10:00

Karavostasi

Spend about two hours on the harbor waterfront: watch the boats, the white houses, and the outline of the bay as you enjoy a relaxed stroll along the seafront. You can stop for a coffee or a snack, roughly €3–10, and check on site for any connections to Chora: by bus the ride is short, while a taxi is an alternative if the schedules don’t line up.

If you arrive by ferry, adjust the start of the itinerary to its schedule; there is no need to move away from the port.

12:30

Chora (The pedestrian center)

Reach Chora from Karavostasi by bus or taxi, allowing around 10–20 minutes depending on the service and traffic. Spend the afternoon in the squares and pedestrian lanes, pausing to admire the white facades, shaded passages, and details of the traditional houses; plan for about an hour for lunch, with a meal typically costing €15–30 per person. For buses, any tickets or seasonal services, check the updated schedules and fares before you leave.

The streets are partly paved: comfortable shoes and a break during the hottest hours make the visit more enjoyable.

17:00

Medieval Kastro district

From the center of Chora, walk into the Kastro, which forms its historic core: allow about 60–90 minutes to wander slowly through the narrow lanes and observe the houses pressed against the ancient walls. Continue with a stop for an aperitif or dinner nearby, roughly €8–20 for an aperitif or €20–40 for dinner, and enjoy the late-afternoon light, which varies by season. The walk through the district does not require a separate transfer; check official channels for any updated information on visits or specific access.

Respect the peace of the residents: the Kastro is a lived-in neighborhood, not just a historic site.

Day 2 – From Chora to Agali Bay

10:00–21:00 Light walks, with transfer along the coast

Discover the main viewpoints of the Chora and end the day by the sea at Agali.

10:00

Panagia Church

From the Chora, follow the paved uphill path toward the church: allow about 15–20 minutes on foot, with a few steep sections, and set aside 45–60 minutes for the visit and the views over the island and the sea. The walk and visit may be free; any donations or local initiatives may involve a cost. Bring water and check the official website or local authorities for any visiting information.

Comfortable shoes and sun protection are useful, especially during the hottest hours.

12:00

Pounta Square

Head back to the historic center on foot in about 15 minutes and stop at Pounta Square to take in the whitewashed houses, the narrow lanes, and the rhythm of life in the Chora. Allow around 1–2 hours for the walk and lunch at one of the local places: as a guide, a simple meal can cost around 12–25 EUR per person, depending on choice and season. In the afternoon, reach Agali by local bus or taxi, or consider the footpath only if you are properly equipped and have checked the route and conditions.

Check availability and connection times for the coast in advance; do not count on getting back without having planned it.

16:00

Agali Beach

Reach the bay from the Chora by bus, if available, or by taxi; budget roughly 2–5 EUR per person by bus or 10–20 EUR for a taxi ride, to be confirmed locally. Leave 2–3 hours to swim, relax, and enjoy the bay, bringing water and everything you need for the beach; rentals and services, if available, may cost extra. For the return to the Chora, arrange transport beforehand, especially if you want to stay until sunset: a taxi ride can cost roughly 10–20 EUR.

Sea conditions and service availability may vary; check local information and head back with enough daylight if you choose to walk.

Day 3 – Agali Trails and Katergo Bay

10:00–21:00 Active but with breaks for swimming

Explore two beaches on the Agali coast on foot and reach Katergo Bay by boat.

10:00

Galifos Beach

Reach the Agali area by local bus or taxi, checking timetables and the stop in advance: from there, continue on foot along the coastal trail for about 10–20 minutes, depending on your starting point. Allow around an hour for swimming and beach time, bringing water and sun protection because services may be limited. The beach does not require an entry ticket; allow approximately €2–5 for the local transfer.

The trail is exposed to the sun and can be uneven: suitable shoes are more practical than flip-flops.

11:30

Agios Nikolaos Beach

Continue on foot along the coastal trail from Galifos; allow roughly 20–30 minutes and check the route on site, especially if the ground is slippery. Plan on about two hours to swim and rest, then take a lunch break in Agali or bring a snack: for a simple meal, consider roughly €10–20 per person. Access to the beach is free; bring water with you, as it is not wise to assume services will be available.

Head back to Agali with time to spare for the next transfer; agree on any taxi in advance before leaving the area.

16:30

Katergo Beach (by boat)

From Agali, reach Karavostasis by bus or taxi, with a transfer that can take about 20–35 minutes depending on the service and traffic; from the port, board only if you find a trip that fits the schedule and sea conditions. Set aside about 1–2 hours for the bay for swimming and relaxing: the round-trip boat excursion can cost roughly €15–30 per person, while the beach has no entrance fee. Bring water, snacks, and everything you need, since you should not rely on the availability of shops or shade.

Boat schedules and the possibility of disembarkation depend on the season and the sea: check the service with the operator or on the official website and do not force the visit if conditions are unfavorable.

Day 4 – Ano Meria and the traditions of Folegandros

10:00–21:00 Light walks and cultural visit

Explore the rural landscape of Ano Meria and learn about the island’s traditions through the local museum.

10:00

Ano Meria

Reach Ano Meria from Chora by local bus, if operating, or by taxi: the road journey takes about 15–20 minutes and can cost around €2–5 per person by bus or €15–25 by taxi per ride. Set aside 2–3 hours for a leisurely walk among the scattered houses, chapels, and terraced fields bordered by dry-stone walls; stay on accessible roads and paths and bring water, as shade and facilities may be limited. For lunch, expect around €15–30 per person, depending on the place and the dishes.

Bus frequencies and connections change depending on the period: check the updated schedules and arrange your return in advance if you choose a taxi.

14:30

Ecological and Folklore Museum

Reach the museum on foot from the central area of Ano Meria, allowing about 5–15 minutes depending on your starting point, and set aside about 1–1,5 hours for the visit. The collections and exhibition spaces tell the story of traditional life and the relationship between the inhabitants and the island’s resources; for any admission, consider an approximate cost of €0–5 per person, to be verified. After the visit, you can stay in the area for a break and organize your return to Chora, leaving time until evening for any waits or transport changes.

Check opening hours, access rules, and tickets on official channels before your visit; the times indicated in the itinerary are a suggestion, not an opening schedule.

Day 5 – Livadaki and the lighthouse on the western coast

09:00–20:00 Moderate trekking and beach breaks

Reach two places on the western coast on foot, allowing enough time for swimming, walking, and the return.

10:30

Livadaki Beach

From Chora, reach Ano Meria by bus or taxi, then follow the locally indicated path to Livadaki: allow about 30–45 minutes on foot from the starting point, with uneven terrain and sun-exposed stretches. Spend time at the bay for a swim and a break; bring water and everything you need, since you should not count on the presence of facilities. Chora–Ano Meria transport: roughly €2–8 one way by bus or about €15–25 by taxi, depending on availability and fare.

Before leaving Ano Meria, ask for confirmation of the route and the most practical point to continue toward the lighthouse.

14:30

Aspropounta Lighthouse

From the Livadaki area, continue only by following the marked path and local directions to the lighthouse; allow about 45–75 minutes of walking, varying according to the route and conditions. From the promontory, take in the western coast and the open seascape, without approaching exposed edges. After the visit, plan your return to Ano Meria along the route indicated on site: allow at least another hour of walking and arrange your return transfer in advance. Access to the outer area is normally a free visit, but check any official information and accessibility before departing.

Avoid the hottest hours for the walk; bring plenty of water, a hat, and hiking shoes.

Day 6 – The coves of Ambeli and Vorina

10:00–19:00 Easy walks and swimming breaks

Exploring two secluded beaches by alternating a stretch of the western coast with a cove near Chora.

10:00

Ambeli Beach

From Chora, reach the Ambeli area by car or scooter, allowing roughly 20–30 minutes on the road and a possible final stretch on foot: check local road and trail conditions on site. Set aside about two hours for the cove, swimming, and taking in the rocky coastline; bring water and shade, as you should not count on services being available. There is no entrance fee for the beach; budget around €8–15 per person for a packed lunch bought in town, excluding transport and rental.

Set out with footwear suitable for the trail and leave no litter behind; before you travel, check local conditions.

16:00

Vorina Beach

After your stop at Ambeli, head back toward Chora and plan a lunch and rest break before tackling the trail to Vorina, north of the center. Allow about 15–30 minutes on foot for the descent, with times varying depending on the route and terrain, and at least an hour for swimming and relaxing on the beach. The return is uphill: save water for both legs and plan your way back with a buffer before sunset. Access to the beach is free; expect to spend around €8–15 for a snack or a simple meal in Chora if you did not bring supplies.

The trail can be rough and steep: wear shoes with good grip and check local conditions before heading down.

Day 7 – Chrysospilia Coast and Folegandros monopatia

09:00–19:00 Active but flexible

Approach the archaeological coast of Chrysospilia and spend the afternoon on a scenic stretch of the island’s traditional trails.

10:00

Chrysospilia Cave

Reach Karavostasis from Chora by local bus or taxi (about 15–20 minutes; roughly €2–5 by bus or €15–25 by taxi), then consider a boat excursion offered locally, if available and compatible with the sea conditions. The trip and any approach usually take several hours; observe the coast and the position of the cave, an important archaeological site, without attempting landings or unauthorized entry. Budget roughly €35–70 for a boat outing and check availability, route, conditions, and access rules before departing; if no sailing is possible, use the morning for a quiet visit to Karavostasis and reschedule the rest of the day.

Access to the cave is not guaranteed: check the guidance of the relevant authorities and the operator’s information before making your plans.

14:30

Hike along the trails (Monopatia)

Return to Karavostasis and head back to Chora by bus or taxi (about 15–20 minutes); take a lunch break before setting off on a section of the monopatia, the island’s ancient trails, choosing the route and duration based on the heat and trail conditions. Walk for about 2–3 hours on an itinerary suited to your level, paying attention to loose stones, exposed sunny stretches, and signage, and stop at viewpoints without leaving the marked paths shown on the local map. The walk normally does not require a ticket; allow around €2–5 for the bus or €15–25 for a taxi for transfers and €12–25 for a simple meal.

Ask for an updated trail map on site and bring enough water: not all sections offer shade or water refill points.
