Day 1

From the port to the historic heart of Chora

10:00–21:00 Easy walks and an urban visit

Get your bearings on the island and discover the old town all the way to Panagia, with a scenic climb at sunset.

10:00

Karavostasi

Start from the port, taking in the waterfront and the links between the village, Chora, and the beaches. To get up to Chora, allow about 10–15 minutes by bus or taxi, if available according to the day’s schedule; on foot, the route is longer and uphill. Visiting the port is free, while the bus ride costs approximately €2–4.

If you are arriving with luggage, check in advance the connections to Chora and luggage storage options.

12:00

Chora and its squares

Allow around 1–2 hours for the pedestrian squares, the passages between the whitewashed houses, and the shaded lanes; take your time and stop for lunch at a taverna. From Karavostasi you can get there by bus or taxi, while once in the village you get around on foot. Walking is free; budget approximately €12–25 for a simple lunch.

The streets are partly paved: comfortable shoes will make the visit more enjoyable.

14:30

Kastro district

Explore this fortified core for about 45–60 minutes, recognizable by its tightly packed houses and narrow lanes that preserve the layout of the historic settlement. It is reached on foot from the center of Chora in a few minutes; there is no ticket required to walk along the public streets. Set aside a break for coffee or a drink, approximately €3–7.

Respect the peace and privacy of residents: some passages run close to homes.

19:15

Panagia Church at sunset

From the center, walk uphill to the church, allowing about 15–25 minutes each way and 45–60 minutes for the visit. The route offers sweeping views over Chora and the coast; the timing is a suggestion to be adjusted to the season and the actual time of sunset. The walk is free; any donations are optional and cannot be quantified.

Bring water and a flashlight for the descent if you return after sunset; check locally for any access instructions.

Day 2 – The coast of Agali and Agios Nikolaos Beach

09:00–18:00 Beach day with a coastal walk

Enjoy Agali Bay and make your way to Agios Nikolaos at a relaxed pace, choosing the route according to sea and trail conditions.

09:00

Agali Beach

Reach the bay from Chora by bus or taxi, depending on available connections, in about 10–20 minutes; budget roughly €2–5 for a bus ride. Set aside 1–2 hours for the beach and coastal views, stopping for breakfast or a snack before continuing. Beach access is free; rentals and refreshments may vary, typically from €5–15.

Bring water and sunscreen: natural shade may be limited.

11:15

Agios Nikolaos Beach

From Agali, you can continue on foot along the coastal path, allowing about 20–35 minutes each way over uneven ground; alternatively, ask locally about any boat connection. Plan at least 2–3 hours for swimming and a break, then return by the same means you used on the way there. The path and beach do not require a ticket; if available, a boat may cost about €5–15 each way.

Before setting off, check the wind, sea conditions, and trail state; bring suitable shoes and enough water.

Day 3 – Rural Ano Meria and the secluded bay of Livadaki

09:00–17:30 Rural exploration and challenging trekking

Discover the island’s agricultural traditions and finish with an excursion to Livadaki, carefully planning water, the return trip, and walking times.

09:00

Ano Meria (rural village)

From Chora, reach Ano Meria by bus or taxi, with an estimated transfer time of 15–25 minutes; the bus ride may cost around €2–5. Spend 45–60 minutes taking in the linear village, terraced landscape, and traditional agricultural buildings, with a stop to buy water and a snack. The walk is free; allow €3–8 for breakfast or simple supplies.

Check return connections before leaving Chora, especially if you plan to walk to the coast.

10:30

Ecological and Folklore Museum

Allow about 45–75 minutes for the visit to learn more about rural life, farming activities, and local traditional objects. The museum is in the Ano Meria area and can be reached on foot from the village; expect an approximate entrance fee of €3–6, to be confirmed along with any visit arrangements through official channels or with the operator. After the visit, take a break and stock up on supplies before the trek.

Opening hours, accessibility, and tickets are not certain: check before visiting on the official website or with the operator.

12:00

Livadaki Beach

From Ano Meria, walk to Livadaki following the coastal trail signposted locally: allow roughly 45–75 minutes each way over exposed, uneven terrain, and at least 1–2 hours for time on the beach. Alternatively, consider a boat connection if operating, checking availability and boarding point; the trek has no cost, while any sea transfer may be around €10–20 round trip. Factor in enough time to return and make the transport back to Chora.

Bring plenty of water, a hat, and hiking shoes; if the trail or the sea are not in suitable condition, skip the route and reorganize the day.
