This itinerary explores by car a part of the Evrotas valley, from the coastal plain to the inland hills. The morning is devoted to the river mouth and Skala beach; after lunch, head to Vrontamas and Geraki, where important religious and medieval remains are preserved. Distances are short, but rural connections are easier with a rental car. Visits to minor monuments should be considered flexible, because opening hours may depend on the season or on the presence of a caretaker.

Discover the coastal landscape of the Evrotas and some of the main historical monuments inland.
09:00
Observation of the Evrotas delta
Drive to the mouth area and spend about an hour on a peaceful walk along the accessible stretches of the river plain. It is a varied natural environment, with channels, fields, and birdlife: bring binoculars and respect any areas marked as sensitive. Outdoor visiting is free.
The ground may be muddy after rain; do not venture onto unmarked farm roads.
10:30
Morning at Skala Beach
In about 10 minutes by car you can reach Skala Beach, ideal for a relaxing stop on the gulf. Take a walk along the shoreline and, if the sea and the season allow, enjoy a swim; available facilities may change throughout the year. Beach access is generally free, with possible charges for sun loungers or an umbrella.
In summer bring water, sunscreen, and beach shoes.
12:00
Lunch in the center of Skala
Head back by car to the center of Skala, just a few minutes from the coast, and choose a taverna or a place on the main street. For a simple meal, expect around €12–22 per person; fish and shared dishes can increase the bill. It’s also a good time to stock up on water before heading inland.
Ask which dishes are of the day and check the kitchen hours.
13:45
Holy Trinity Monastery in Vrontamas
Continue by car to Vrontamas, allowing about 30–40 minutes depending on the route and local conditions. The monastery, also known for its secluded location, is worth a respectful visit to the accessible areas and architectural details. Entry may be free or by donation; access to the interior is not always guaranteed.
Wear appropriate clothing for a place of worship and check locally whether it is open before setting out.
15:30
Church of Agios Sozon in Geraki
Reach Geraki in about 25–35 minutes by car and stop in the village to visit the church of Agios Sozon, if it is open. Take your time to observe the structure and any preserved decorative features: in the area’s historic churches, the atmosphere and village setting are an integral part of the visit. The stop is generally free.
If the door is closed, ask in the village whether it is possible to contact the caretaker; avoid forcing entry.
16:30
Walk up to Geraki Castle
From the center of Geraki, make your way to the castle area, allowing about 15–20 minutes on foot for the climb and the time needed to explore the site. The medieval ruins dominate the landscape and offer an interesting insight into the village’s strategic position; watch your step on the stairs and uneven sections. External access is usually free, but availability and path conditions may vary.
Wear shoes with non-slip soles and bring water: shade along the route is limited.
18:00
Stroll through the village of Geraki and return
Head back leisurely through the historic center, taking in the village lanes and the views over the plain. Finish with a coffee or drink in the village, typically €3–7, before leaving; from Geraki, allow about 35–45 minutes by car to return to Skala. If you visit the castle at sunset, plan your return while there is still enough light on the rural roads.
