Day 1 – Mountain roads and villages of Erymanthos

10:00–21:00 Easy walks and car transfers

Discover the settlements and landscapes of the Erymanthos hills with a flexible loop route.

10:00

Chalandritsa: walk through the center

Start in Chalandritsa, reachable by car from Patras in about 30–40 minutes, depending on traffic and your starting point. Spend about an hour finding your way through the village streets and taking in the architecture and everyday life of the municipal seat. Visiting the center is free.

Stock up and buy water here: in the smaller villages, services may be limited.

11:15

Transfer to Agia Marina

Continue by car to Agia Marina on local roads; allow about 30–40 minutes and drive carefully on the narrower sections. Once you arrive, enjoy a short walk through the village core and stop at the viewpoints overlooking the hills. The stop does not require a ticket.

Set up your navigation before setting off and check the route: mobile coverage may be patchy.

12:15

Lunch break in Agia Marina

Stop for lunch at a taverna or other open spot in the village or along the way, checking opening hours in advance. Choose homemade Greek dishes and seasonal produce; a simple meal can cost around 12–22 € per person, drinks not included. If you can’t find an open place, use the provisions you bought in Chalandritsa.

In this area, opening hours may vary depending on the day of the week and the season.

14:00

Leontio: stop in the mountain village

Reach Leontio by car, allowing about 25–35 minutes on winding roads. Stroll through the center at your own pace and take in the agricultural and mountain scenery surrounding the village; plan on 45–60 minutes for the visit. Admission to the village is free.

Park without obstructing the narrow streets and respect the quiet of the residential areas.

15:30

Kallithea: a break among the hills

Continue on to Kallithea, allowing about 20–30 minutes of driving depending on the route you choose. Take a short walk and use the stop to photograph the hills and fields of the area; there are no admission tickets required to visit the village. Bring water and sun protection, especially in the warmer months.

The side roads can be narrow: avoid stopping on bends or in places without room to pull over.

17:00

Views toward Mount Erymanthos

Spend late afternoon at a scenic stop, choosing an accessible spot along the local roads facing the Erymanthos massif. The summit is not just a roadside stop: do not attempt to reach it without a proper hiking route, equipment, and favorable weather conditions. The scenic stop is free.

Check the forecast and head back while there is still enough daylight; at sunset, visibility on mountain roads drops quickly.

19:00

Return and dinner along the way

Begin the return to Chalandritsa or Patras, allowing roughly 45–70 minutes depending on your starting point and road conditions. If you find an open place, end the day with a simple dinner: budget around 15–28 € per person. Alternatively, plan dinner once you get back to the city.

Before setting off, check fuel, opening hours of local places, and road conditions: in small towns, evening options are limited.

Practical tips

  • A car is the most practical solution: public transport links between the small towns can be infrequent and not suitable for this route.
  • Download offline maps and bring water, because mobile coverage and services can be limited outside the larger towns.
  • Wear comfortable shoes even for short walks and bring a jacket: up in the mountains the weather can change quickly.
  • If you want to do a proper hike on the massif, plan it separately with an up-to-date trail, favorable weather and suitable equipment.
