Day 1 – From the former airport to the sea at Elliniko

10:00–21:00 Easy walks and short transfers

Discover the new Ellinikon hub and reach the Agios Kosmas coast without needlessly crossing the city.

10:00

Arrive at Elliniko station

Get to Elliniko on metro line 2 and use the station as your starting point for the day. From the metro terminal, allow about 10–15 minutes on foot or a short taxi ride to the park area; check the signage, as access points may change because of construction works.

A city transport ticket costs around €1,20–€1,50; check fares and validity before you go.

10:30

The Ellinikon Experience Centre

Set aside about an hour at the visitor centre to learn about the transformation project for the former airport and the future use of the spaces. Models and exhibition content help convey the scale of the development and its relationship with the coast. Opening hours, access arrangements and any reservation requirements may vary.

Check the project’s official website before visiting; do not assume entry is possible without a reservation.

11:45

Walk to The Ellinikon Experience Park

Continue into the park, which can be explored at a relaxed pace in about 60–90 minutes, among green spaces, installations and resting areas. Notice how temporary structures and public spaces coexist with the vast construction site around them. Entrance to the park is generally free, though some areas or activities may have specific rules.

Bring water and a hat: during the hottest part of the day the sun can be intense and shade is not evenly available.

13:15

Casual lunch in Elliniko

Stop at a taverna or a local spot near the station or along Elliniko’s shopping streets. Choose simple Greek dishes such as souvlaki, Greek salad or meze to share; allow about an hour for lunch. A casual meal costs around €12–€22 per person, drinks excluded.

To reach places farther from the park, a short taxi or bus ride may be the easiest option.

15:00

Glyfada Golf Club of Athens

Reach the golf club by taxi or bus, allowing around 10–20 minutes depending on traffic and the stop. If you have not booked a round, treat the visit as a scenic stop: access to the course and facilities is reserved for authorized users. A round or sports entry, if available and booked, may cost in the range of €50–€100 or more.

Do not enter the course without authorization; contact the club for availability, rates, and access conditions.

17:30

Walk to Agios Kosmas Beach

Continue toward the coast and check on site whether access to the Agios Kosmas Beach section is possible: Ellinikon works and seasonal conditions may alter entrances and paths. If access is allowed, set aside an hour for a seaside walk and to take in the late-afternoon light over the Saronic Gulf. There are no costs for this stop, apart from any seasonal beach services.

If the passage is closed, do not go around fences: choose a publicly accessible stretch of coast nearby.

19:30

Dinner and return to the metro

Head back toward Elliniko by taxi or public transport and end the day at a taverna in the area. For a Greek dinner with one main dish and a drink, budget approximately €18–€30 per person. From Elliniko you can take metro line 2 back toward central Athens.

Check the last convenient connection and travel times, especially if you are continuing on to a distant neighborhood.

Practical tips

  • Check opening hours, reservations, and access for The Ellinikon Experience Centre and the park before you go.
  • Check local notices about construction sites: pedestrian routes and access to the coast may change.
  • In summer, bring water, sunscreen, and comfortable shoes; exposed areas offer little shade.
  • For golf, contact the club directly and book in advance: entry and access to the course are not guaranteed for visitors without authorization.
