3 days / 2 nights · Mountain landscapes, lake, monasteries, coast
Dorida is best explored by car: the villages are far apart and public transport does not make it easy to combine the inland area with the coast. The first day is dedicated to Lidoriki and the Mornos reservoir, the second to the mountain region and Varnakova Monastery, and the third to the coastal villages and the island of Trizonia. The stops are grouped by area to reduce transfers, leaving time for scenic breaks and relaxed meals. Visiting hours, road conditions and boat connections may vary depending on the season.

Get to know the center of Dorida and take in the sweeping mountain and lakeside scenery of Mornos.
10:00
Arrival in Lidoriki
Start in the center of the capital of Dorida, also a good place to refuel and stock up on water and snacks before heading toward the lake. Set aside about an hour for a walk among the square, the cafés, and the village streets; free visit, no ticket required.
Services are more limited in the small villages: it’s better to stock up here.
11:15
Towards Lake Mornos
Drive to an accessible panoramic viewpoint along the reservoir road, allowing about 15–25 minutes depending on the stop you choose. Water levels change throughout the year: take in the contrast between the shores, the hills, and the wooded slopes. Free stop; park only in safe spaces.
12:30
Scenic stop at the reservoir
Take a quiet break for photos and a short walk, without heading down to steep banks or exposed ground. There are no guaranteed refreshment points or facilities, so bring water with you; approximate cost: €0.
13:15
Lunch in Lidoriki
Head back into the village for lunch at a taverna with home-style Greek dishes, salads, and daily specials. Expect to spend roughly €12–22 per person, drinks excluded or included depending on your choice.
15:00
Mornos Dam
Drive to the dam area following the permitted roads and stop only in safe, accessible places: not all facilities can be visited up close. Admire the reservoir system and the surrounding landscape; the stop is usually free, but access to technical areas is prohibited.
16:45
Kallio and return
Continue to Kallio, in the area shaped by the reservoir’s history and the relocation of the old settlement tied to the dam’s construction. Take time to enjoy the landscape and local context, without expecting a museum or an equipped archaeological site; free external visit. Return to Lidoriki for the evening.
The roads are winding: check your fuel and don’t rely only on the navigation app’s estimated times.
Discover the monastic heritage and rural character of eastern Dorida.
09:00
Departure from Lidoriki
Set off after breakfast by car, allowing around 1–1.5 hours for the transfer to the monastery, depending on the route and road conditions. The inland roads are scenic but slow: treat the bends as part of the journey and fill up before you leave.
10:30
Monastery of Panagia Varnakova
Visit the historic monastery set amid the mountain landscape, paying attention to the religious spaces and any areas open to visitors. Access may depend on the community’s schedule and celebrations; it is not wise to assume that all buildings can be visited. In general, admission is free, but a donation is appreciated.
Respectful clothing; check opening times and local guidance in advance.
12:00
Walk and break in the mountain landscape
Take a short stop around the monastery, staying on the permitted paths and not venturing onto unpaved roads unsuitable for your car. Bring water and sunscreen; indicative cost: €0.
13:00
Lunch in the Efpalio area
Head down toward Efpalio and stop at a village taverna or along the road, depending on which places are open that day. A main course with a side dish costs roughly €12–22 per person; in small towns it helps to ask in advance which dishes are available.
15:00
Efpalio
Spend about an hour exploring the town center and everyday local life, with a stroll through the streets and a coffee break. This is more of an atmospheric stop than a monumental site: free to visit, with drinks generally in the €2–5 range.
17:00
Scenic drive and return
End the day with an unhurried return to your accommodation, choosing any stops only at safe, authorized pull-offs. Driving time depends on your base and road conditions; dinner at a taverna with an indicative budget of €15–28 per person.
End your trip on the Doric coast, alternating between villages, the beach, and a short crossing to Trizonia.
09:30
Toward the coast
Drive to the Doric shoreline, allowing for varying travel times depending on your starting point and chosen route. Bring a swimsuit, shoes suitable for the rocks, and water: services on the beaches may be seasonal.
10:30
Monastiraki Fokidas
Stroll along the seafront and through the village streets, taking in the close connection between the settlement and the Gulf of Corinth. The stop is free of charge; plan on about 45–60 minutes and, optionally, a drink for €2–5.
12:00
Glyfada Fokidas
Continue by car to the nearby coastal village and choose an accessible stretch of shoreline for a break by the sea. The beaches are generally free, while sun loungers and an umbrella, where available, may cost around €5–15 for the set.
13:30
Lunch by the sea
Stop at a tavern on the coast for fish, meze, or simple Greek dishes. Plan on roughly €18–35 per person depending on the fish you choose and the drinks; ask for the price by weight before ordering.
15:30
Crossing to Trizonia
Head to the boarding point in Glyfada and check the local connection to the island: schedules and arrangements may vary with the season and weather. The crossing is short; expect an indicative cost of €0–5 round trip, to be confirmed on site.
16:00
Walk around Trizonia
Explore the small center and harbor area on foot, then choose a stretch of coast for a scenic stop or a swim if conditions allow. The island is compact and easy to visit without a car; walking is free, while drinks and meals are paid for.
18:30
Return and end of the trip
Return to Glyfada with the available connection and leave some extra time for any waits or service changes. If you are departing the same day, check the duration of the next leg first; a light dinner or a coffee costs roughly €5–18.
