Sanctuary of Zeus Naios and Dione
The religious heart of Dodona, it was dedicated to Zeus Naios and the goddess Dione. Here the priests interpreted the oracle’s answers, among the sacred trees and the sound of the wind.
Bouleuterion of Dodona
This building housed the meetings of the city council and preserves traces of the political life of ancient Dodona. Its monumental structure testifies to the importance of the site beyond the religious sphere.
Prytaneion of Dodona
The prytaneion was a public building tied to civic life and the reception of distinguished guests. Its ruins complete the picture of the city that grew up around the sanctuary.
Ancient Stadium of Dodona
Next to the theater are the remains of the stadium, used for athletic competitions held during the sanctuary festivals. Its position in the valley floor makes it easy to imagine the excitement of the ancient games.
Acropolis of Dodona
On the hill overlooking the complex stood the acropolis, with walls and defensive remains that speak to the settlement’s strategic role. From above, you can appreciate the mountainous backdrop that makes the site so unique.

How to get around
Dodoni is located about 22 km from Ioannina, and the easiest way to get there is by car, following the signs to the archaeological site. A rental car also makes it possible to explore the villages in the area, while bus connections can be limited and vary by season. Alternatively, you can ask a taxi to arrange the trip and agree on the return journey in advance. Inside the site, you move around on foot, along paths that are partly uneven.
When to go
Spring and autumn are generally the most pleasant seasons to visit the site, thanks to the mild temperatures. In summer, the heat can be intense and the area offers little shade, so it is best to arrive in the morning. In winter, Epirus can be cold and rainy. Before your visit, check the opening hours and any seasonal changes.
