The center of Delphi is small and easy to explore on foot, but the streets are hilly. The archaeological site and the museum are just outside the town center and can be reached on foot in a few minutes. To get there from Athens, you can take a KTEL bus, checking timetables and availability in advance. A car is useful for exploring the surrounding area, such as Arachova and Mount Parnassus.
Spring and autumn are the most pleasant times to visit Delphi: temperatures are generally mild and the scenery is especially striking. In summer, the heat can be intense, especially during a visit to the archaeological site, and there are more visitors. Winter is quieter, but the mountain climate can be cold and changeable. Before you leave, check the opening hours of the site and museum, which may change depending on the season.
In the center of Delphi you’ll find tavernas and restaurants serving Greek cuisine, often overlooking the valley. Look for local dishes based on meat, seasonal vegetables, cheese, and olive oil; in the surrounding area, formaella is also popular, a typical cheese from nearby Arachova. For a simple meal, many tavernas offer meze to share and daily specialties. In busier periods, it can be useful to book in the evening.
