CostanzaConstanța District · Romania
One destination.
A thousand ways to live it.
Constanța is a seaside city with layered charm, where ancient history lives alongside the lively rhythm of the Black Sea coast. Between Roman mosaics, mosques, historic squares, and beautiful views of the seafront, it offers an itinerary full of discoveries.
Worth seeing, worth remembering.
This historic square is the heart of the old town and takes its name from the Roman poet Ovid, who was exiled to Tomis, ancient Constanța. The poet’s statue and the historic buildings make it an excellent starting point for exploring the center.
Housed in an imposing building overlooking , the museum tells the region’s long history through Greek, Roman, and medieval artifacts. Among its best-known pieces is the statue of the serpent Glykon.
This Roman complex preserves a large polychrome mosaic that once decorated a commercial terrace overlooking the ancient port. It is a striking testament to the prosperity of Tomis in Roman times.
Built in the early 20th century, the mosque combines Romanian and Eastern architectural elements and is an important place of worship for the Muslim community. From the minaret terrace, you can enjoy a beautiful view over the rooftops and the harbor.
This elegant 19th-century lighthouse, inspired by a medieval structure, recalls the city’s maritime ties with Genoese merchants. It stands on the seafront, not far from the Casino, in an ideal spot for a scenic stroll.

A well-planned trip.
How to get around
Constanța’s city center is easy to explore on foot, especially between the waterfront, Ovidiu Square, and the historic district. For longer distances, you can use the city buses, checking updated routes and timetables. Taxis and ride-hailing services are convenient, especially in the evening or for getting to the beaches. In summer, check connections to Mamaia, which may be more frequent but also busier.
When to go
From May to June and in September, the weather is generally pleasant and the beaches are less crowded than in peak season. July and August are the best months for seaside life, but they also bring more heat, more visitors, and higher prices. Spring and autumn are good seasons to explore the city and its historic sites in milder temperatures.
Where to eat
To sample the local cuisine, look for restaurants serving Black Sea fish and seafood, as well as Romanian dishes such as ciorbă and mici. In the center and around the port, you’ll find a variety of options, from casual eateries to more refined spots. In peak season, it’s a good idea to book in the evening and check opening hours, which may vary outside the summer months.
Quick tips
- 01The currency is the Romanian leu (RON): pay in lei and check the exchange rate before changing money.
- 02In summer, bring sunscreen, a hat, and water: the sun on the coast can be intense.
- 03Check museum and archaeological site opening hours in advance, as they may change with the season.
- 04If you also want to visit the beaches of Mamaia, factor in traffic and plan your trips during less crowded times.
Wake up in the right place.
