BEFORE YOU GO

A well-planned trip.

Getting around

The center of Corinth is easy to explore on foot, while to reach the archaeological site of ancient Corinth, about 8 km away, it’s better to take a taxi or check local buses. The city is connected to Athens by suburban trains and KTEL intercity buses; check schedules and stops before setting out, as they may vary. To visit the Corinth Canal, consider a taxi or an organized excursion, especially if you want to stop at scenic viewpoints. A rental car is useful for exploring the surrounding area as well, but in the center it’s best to get around on foot.

When to go

Spring and early autumn are the most pleasant times to visit Corinth: temperatures are generally mild and sightseeing at the archaeological sites is more comfortable. In summer, the heat can be intense, especially in the area of ancient Corinth, where there is little shade; bring water, a hat and sunscreen. If you’re traveling in the low season, check opening hours for attractions and transport connections in advance.

Where to eat

In the center of Corinth you’ll find tavernas and casual spots where you can try Greek dishes such as souvlaki, moussaka and salads with feta. For fish, look for restaurants along the coast and ask which products are fresh and in season. At lunch, tavernas popular with locals are often a good choice; check menus and prices before ordering.

Quick tips

  1. Bring water and comfortable shoes for visiting ancient Corinth: the route is exposed to the sun and includes uneven ground.
  2. Check the updated schedules for trains, buses and archaeological sites, especially on weekends and out of season.
  3. If you want to visit the Corinth Canal, keep in mind that the viewpoints and transport stops can be far apart.
  4. In restaurants, ask whether the cover charge is included and check the price of fish sold by weight.
