Getting around
The center of Cluj-Napoca is easy to explore on foot, among squares, churches and cafés. To reach the more distant neighborhoods, you can use the city’s buses and trolleybuses: check routes, schedules and ticket-purchase options on the local public transport website or app. From the airport, you can continue into the city by public transport or taxi; check your destination and the fares before setting off. For evening travel, taxis and ride-hailing apps are also available.
When to go
Spring and early autumn are ideal for strolling around, with generally mild temperatures and fewer crowds. Summer offers long days and a full calendar of events, but during major festivals such as Untold, accommodation and transport can be in higher demand: book ahead. Winters are cold and can bring snow, so dressing in layers is a good idea.
Where to eat
In the center you’ll find restaurants and venues for every budget, from contemporary cuisine to traditional Romanian dishes, with Hungarian and Transylvanian influences. Look for local specialties such as ciorbă, sour soups, or meat and polenta dishes; for a quick meal, try bakeries and markets. On weekends and during festivals, it’s worth booking ahead, especially at the most popular restaurants.
