One destination.
A thousand ways to live it.
As the capital of Sichuan, Chengdu is famous for giant pandas, tea houses, and its lively spicy cuisine. Between ancient temples and bustling neighborhoods, it offers a welcoming pace and plenty of chances to get to know local culture.
Worth seeing, worth remembering.
This memorial complex is dedicated to Zhuge Liang and the history of the Shu kingdom during the Three Kingdoms period. Its pavilions, tree-lined courtyards, and statues make it a place full of charm and tranquility.
With red lanterns, workshops, and stalls selling local specialties, Jinli recreates the atmosphere of Sichuan’s old streets. It is especially atmospheric as evening falls.
The museum stands on the site where the celebrated poet Du Fu lived during the Tang dynasty. Gardens, pavilions, and traditional spaces invite a peaceful break from the city’s pace.
One of Chengdu’s most important Buddhist temples, it is known for its halls, shaded courtyards, and serene atmosphere. Nearby, you’ll also find traditional places to enjoy tea and local specialties.
A central park where you can watch everyday life in Chengdu unfold among walks, tea houses, and mahjong games. The traditional Heming Teahouse is a pleasant stop to soak up the local atmosphere.

Stop after stop.
A well-planned trip.
Getting around
The subway is the most convenient way to get around the city: it’s extensive, modern, and connects many attractions and train stations. For buses and the metro, find out which payment methods are available: local apps may require an account and Chinese payment systems. Taxis and ride-hailing services like Didi are practical, but traffic can make journeys longer, especially during rush hour. Keep the destination address written in Chinese handy to show the driver. For short trips in central neighborhoods, walking is often pleasant, but check the distance because the city’s districts are large.
When to go
Spring and autumn are generally the most pleasant times to visit Chengdu, with mild temperatures and conditions ideal for strolling. Summer can be hot, humid, and rainy, while winter is cold and damp, though rarely very harsh. To see the pandas, it’s best to arrive at the research center in the morning, when the animals tend to be more active. Check the forecast and keep in mind that during Chinese public holidays, attractions and transport can be crowded.
Where to eat
Chengdu is famous for Sichuan cuisine, rich in aromas and often spicy: try mapo tofu, dan dan noodles, and hot pot, choosing the spice level carefully. If you prefer milder flavors, ask for «bù là» (not spicy) or «wēi là» (a little spicy), although chili can be present in many dishes. You’ll find restaurants in every price range in the central districts and traditional alleyways; some popular places have queues at mealtimes. Showing the name of the dish or restaurant in Chinese can make ordering easier.
Quick tips
- 01Download offline maps and save the addresses of hotels and attractions in Chinese: transliterated names are not always enough.
- 02Before you travel, check which navigation, translation, and payment apps work for visitors and set up the necessary accounts.
- 03Bring a light umbrella or raincoat with you: rain is possible in several seasons and the climate is often humid.
- 04Taste the local cuisine gradually and specify the spice level; in hot pot, you can choose a non-spicy broth or a divided pot with two broths.
Wake up in the right place.
