Just outside stands the famous archaic lion carved into the rock, dating back to around the 6th century BC. A short walk leads to this symbol of the island, set amid the greenery.
On the southeastern coast, the remains of Karthea include temples, walls, and a theater overlooking the sea. The archaeological site can be reached on foot along scenic trails or by boat.
This long bay in the north of the island is prized for its calm waters and a backdrop of hills and tamarisks. It is a pleasant choice for a beach day in a relaxed setting.
On the western coast, Koundouros offers a sheltered bay and a particularly inviting sea. The small coves nearby are perfect for alternating relaxation with a swim.
Perched on a promontory in the northeast of Ceo, the monastery offers sweeping views over the Aegean. The church and the surrounding landscape make it a striking stop, especially on clear days.

How to get around
Ceo (Kea) is reached by ferry from the port of Lavrio, near Athens: check schedules and availability, as they may vary by season. The port is in Korissia, from where buses leave for and some parts of the island, but services are not always frequent. To explore beaches and villages with greater freedom, consider renting a car or scooter. The roads can be narrow and winding, so drive carefully and allow more travel time than expected.
When to go
From May to June and from September to early October, the climate is generally pleasant and the island is less crowded than in the height of summer. July and August are ideal for the sea, but they bring more visitors, higher prices, and often windy days. In spring and autumn, you can also enjoy hiking, checking trail conditions and open services in advance.
Where to eat
In Korissia and you will find tavernas and places to stop for a meal after the beach or a walk. Look for fish dishes and Greek specialties made with local ingredients, such as cheese, honey, and seasonal produce. In high season, it is a good idea to book dinner, especially at the more popular restaurants.
