How to get around
Campobasso’s historic center is easy to explore on foot, but there are hills and stairways between the old town and the lower areas, so wear comfortable shoes. The railway station is located in the lower part of the city, while the center can be reached on foot or by city buses. Buses are also useful for getting around between neighborhoods, but frequencies and schedules can vary. To explore the surroundings, a car offers greater freedom; alternatively, check regional bus and train connections in advance. If you are arriving by car, find out about parking options before reaching the historic center.
When to go
Spring and early autumn are ideal for walking around the city and visiting the surroundings, with generally mild temperatures. In June, the Misteri parade takes place for Corpus Domini, one of Campobasso’s most distinctive events: the dates change every year, so it’s best to check the calendar. Summer can be hot, while winter is cold and sometimes snowy; bring clothing suited to the season.
