The streets of the Old Town are lined with restaurants, cafés, and historic buildings; the small Stavropoleos Church is a jewel of Brâncovenesc architecture. Stroll through the alleys during the day too, when it is easier to appreciate the details.

If possible, combine your visit with a concert by the George Enescu Philharmonic Orchestra. The building overlooks the Revolution Square area, one of the key places in the country’s recent history.

The metro, bus, tram, and trolleybus network makes it possible to reach much of the city; for quicker trips between neighborhoods, the metro is often the most practical choice. Check how to buy and validate tickets before boarding. From the Old Town, many attractions are within walking distance; for Henri Coandă Airport, you can use the train or bus connections, checking updated schedules and stops. Taxis and ride-hailing apps are available: choose official services and check the route and fare.
Spring and early autumn are generally the most pleasant times to visit Bucharest, with temperatures ideal for walks and park visits. Summer can be very hot, while winter is cold and sometimes snowy: bring suitable clothing and check the forecast. In any season, check museum and attraction opening hours in advance, as they may vary on public holidays.
To sample Romanian cuisine, look for traditional restaurants serving sarmale, mici, ciorbă, and mămăligă; in the Old Town you’ll find many options, but it’s also worth exploring neighborhoods like Dorobanți and the Piața Obor area. Obor Market is a great place for local products and casual snacks. Book ahead at the most popular places and ask about ingredients if you have dietary requirements.
