On the Liotopi peninsula, near Olympiada, lie the remains of ancient Stageira, Aristotle’s birthplace. The archaeological trail leads through walls, houses, and the remains of public buildings in a setting overlooking the sea.

A rental car is the most practical way to explore the villages and beaches of the Aristotelis area, where distances and public transport connections can make getting around less convenient. The roads alternate between coastal stretches and hilly routes: allow realistic travel times and drive carefully. In summer, bus connections are available between some towns, but frequencies and schedules may vary: check them before setting off. From Ouranoupoli, boats depart for Ammouliani and cruises along the coast of Mount Athos; to visit the monastic peninsula, specific rules and permits apply.
From June to September the climate is warm and the seaside resorts are livelier, with more services and connections available. July and August are the busiest and hottest months; June and September often offer a good balance between sea, temperatures and peace and quiet. Spring and autumn are pleasant for visiting archaeological sites and hiking, though some seasonal services may be reduced.
In coastal towns such as Ierissos, Olympiada and Ouranoupoli, look for fish tavernas and Greek cuisine, choosing according to the catch of the day and seasonal availability. In inland villages, it is easier to find traditional dishes, grilled meats and local products. For a simple meal, try meze to share and ask which ingredients are in season; in high season it is wise to book in the evening.
