This long stone bridge crosses and offers a scenic walk over the gulf. It was built in the 19th century during the period of British rule.

The lagoon forms a peaceful natural setting on the edge of the center, ideal for a stroll along the waterfront. Sea turtles can sometimes be spotted in its waters.

The museum houses artifacts that tell the story of Kefalonia from prehistory to the Roman era. It is an interesting stop for delving into the island's origins.

Its collections illustrate daily life, traditions, and local history through clothing, objects, and documents. It is located in the center of Argostoli, near Vallianou Square.

At this unusual geological phenomenon, seawater disappears into sinkholes along the coast. The site is a short scenic excursion northwest of the center.

With its white circular colonnade, the lighthouse is one of the most photographed spots around Argostoli. It stands on the headland near , with lovely views of the sea.

Getting around

Argostoli’s center is easy to explore on foot, between the main square, the seafront, and . To reach the island’s beaches and other towns, a car offers greater freedom; in high season, however, it’s worth considering traffic and parking. KTEL buses connect Argostoli with some destinations in Kefalonia, but frequencies and schedules can vary: check them before you set off. Taxis are also available and, for experienced riders, scooters or quads. The airport is a short distance from the city and can be reached by taxi or a rental car.

When to go

From May to June and from September to early October, the weather is pleasant and the island tends to be less crowded than in the height of summer. July and August are ideal for the sea, but they bring high temperatures, more visitors, and often higher prices. In spring and autumn, some activities and connections may have reduced hours; check in advance if you’re traveling outside the peak season.

Where to eat

In the center and along the port you’ll find tavernas, cafés, and restaurants, with plenty of fish and Greek specialties to choose from. Look for local Kefalonian dishes such as kreatopita, a savory meat pie, and pair dinner with a local Robola wine. In summer, it’s advisable to book ahead, especially for tables on the waterfront; to try more home-style cooking, consider the tavernas in the island’s villages too.

  2. If you rely on buses, check the latest timetables and plan your return trip: services can be less frequent in the evening.
