Getting around
Arad’s city center is easy to explore on foot, especially around Avram Iancu Square, the Revolution Boulevard and the historic buildings. For longer distances, you can use the trams and buses of the local CTP network. Check timetables and ticket-purchase options on the website or at sales points, and validate them according to the instructions on board. Taxis and app-based ride services are useful for reaching less central areas. If you arrive by train, the station is also connected to the center by public transport.
When to go
Spring and early autumn are generally the most pleasant times, with temperatures ideal for strolling around and sightseeing. In summer it can get hot, while winter is cold and sometimes foggy. If you’re traveling in the warmer months, plan outdoor visits for the morning or late afternoon.
Where to eat
In the center you’ll find restaurants, cafés and casual spots, with Romanian cuisine and specialties from the Banat region. You can try hearty dishes such as soups, grilled meats and polenta-based preparations, as well as local desserts. For a simple meal, look for bakeries and markets too; opening hours and days may vary, especially on public holidays.

- 01The currency is the Romanian leu (RON): in the busiest shops and restaurants, cards are often accepted, but it’s useful to have some cash.
- 02Learn a few words of Romanian, such as «bună ziua» (good morning) and «mulțumesc» (thank you): it’s a appreciated gesture.
