Chlemoutsi Castle
An imposing 13th-century fortress built by the Franks, it dominates the plains of Elis from a hill near the village of Kastro. Its walls and towers also offer sweeping views of the Ionian coast.

In the northwest of Elis, Andravida-Kyllini blends the atmosphere of Greek towns with a Ionian coastline rich in history. Between Frankish fortresses, medieval churches and thermal springs, it is an ideal destination for alternating cultural visits with moments of relaxation by the sea.

In the center of Andravida, this medieval church is a rare example of Gothic architecture in the Principality of Achaea. Its austere structure recalls the city’s Frankish past.
Remains of the ancient medieval port city of Clarenza, once an important commercial and administrative center of the Principality of Achaea. Visiting the ruins makes it possible to imagine the strategic role of this stretch of coast.
The thermal springs of Kyllini are known for their mineral-rich waters and for their natural setting between pine forest and sea. They make for a pleasant stop to enjoy a relaxing break during the journey.
Located in the surroundings of Kyllini, the monastery is a place of peace and reflection tied to the local Orthodox tradition. The visit offers a more intimate glimpse into the religious life of the region.
A lively link to the Ionian islands, the port lets you observe the daily rhythm of ferries and boats. It is also a good starting point for exploring the coast and the surrounding area.
From a first stroll to a week of discoveries. A starting point to make your own.
A quick journey through imposing medieval fortresses, Gothic architecture, and rejuvenating thermal waters on the Ionian coast.
Three days discovering the heritage of the Principality of Achaea and the region of Ilia's most beautiful golden beaches.
A full immersion among archaeological sites, protected natural oases, Byzantine monasteries, and picturesque villages of Western Greece.
To explore Andravida, Kyllini and the surrounding area, a car is the most convenient option: towns and beaches are far apart and public transport can be limited. KTEL buses connect some places in the region, but it’s best to check routes and schedules in advance, especially outside the high season. Ferries to Zakynthos and to Poros, on the island of Kefalonia, depart from Kyllini port: book ahead during busy periods. Alternatively, taxis and rental cars are useful for short trips. Allow extra time to reach the port and check for any departure updates.
Spring and early autumn are ideal for visiting the area, with pleasant temperatures and fewer crowds. Summer is the best time for the sea and for finding more services open, but it can be very hot and the port is busier, especially on turnover days. For a cultural visit or to travel inland, choose the coolest hours of the day.
In Kyllini, look for tavernas and restaurants near the port, where you’ll often find fish and seafood, along with traditional Greek dishes. In Andravida and nearby villages, you can try family-run places and regional cuisine from Elis, with seasonal ingredients and local produce. Opening hours may vary depending on the season: if you have a specific place in mind, check the hours before you set off.
