Line 3 station is a convenient gateway to the neighborhood and a useful base for exploring its streets and local spots. From here, you can easily reach central Athens and several nearby attractions.
(Dafni Monastery)
Famous for its Byzantine mosaics and listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the monastery is one of the most important cultural visits near Aghia Varvara. It stands along the ancient Sacred Way, a short drive from the city center.

How to get around
The metro is the most convenient option: Agia Varvara station is on Line 3, which connects the neighborhood with central Athens and Piraeus. For the airport, check schedules and departing services, as not all trains continue to the airport. City buses serve areas not reached by the metro, but they can be affected by traffic. For walking, keep in mind that the neighborhood is partly hilly and some climbs can be demanding.
When to go
Spring and autumn are the most pleasant seasons, with temperatures generally suitable for visiting Athens and its surroundings. In summer, the heat can be intense, especially in the middle of the day: plan outings for the morning or toward evening and bring water with you. Winter is usually mild, but it can be rainy; a waterproof jacket is useful.
Where to eat
Agia Varvara is a residential area with taverns, casual eateries, souvlaki spots, cafés, and bakeries, mainly frequented by local residents. For a simple meal, look along the shopping streets and in the squares, where you can find everyday Greek cuisine and take-away specialties.
