1 day · Harbor, sea, village, traditions
The day begins at Agios Georgios Port and follows a compact route suited to the island’s size: first the waterfront, then a break at Spilia Beach, and finally the village of Megalo Chorio with its church. Distances are short, but between the port, beach, and village there are uphill stretches and roads exposed to the sun. The plan leaves room for a leisurely lunch and the return to the port, to be adapted to the actual ferry schedule. Times, transport, and costs are approximate: for services and access, check official information or what is available on site.
Walking · 1.8 km · 22 min · Source: Mapbox · walking
Alternate views of the port and a stop by the sea with a walking visit to the village and its church.
10:00
Agios Georgios Port
Set aside about 30–45 minutes for the port, your arrival point and reference for getting your bearings on the island: watch the boats, the shape of the bay, and the houses clustered around the waterfront. Before continuing, check transport options and return times on site: if available, a short local transfer can reduce the walking section; as a rough guide, allow €5–15 for a ride, to be confirmed directly.
If you arrive on the island by ferry, check updated schedules with the company or at the port and adjust the start of the itinerary accordingly.
11:00
Spilia Beach
From the port, walk to the beach, allowing roughly 15–30 minutes depending on the route and pace; ask for directions on site, as signage may be limited. Set aside about two hours for a swim and a break: bring water, sunscreen, and anything you need for the beach. Access may be free, but services and conditions vary; allow €0–10 for any refreshments or needs.
On a small island, it’s wise to bring water and snacks with you, rather than relying on beach facilities being available.
15:00
Megalo Chorio
After your stop by the sea and a relaxed lunch, head to Megalo Chorio on foot or with a local ride: allow about 25–40 minutes on foot from the port and variable times from the beach, especially for uphill stretches. Set aside an hour for the village center, wandering among the houses and inner lanes and pausing to take in the island scenery. For a simple meal or a drink, budget roughly €12–25 per person; check on site which activities are available.
During the hottest hours, keep a leisurely pace and wear shoes suitable for uneven roads.
17:00
Church of Agios Panteleimonas
Continue on foot from the village to the church, allowing about 30–45 minutes for the visit and to observe the building and its surroundings. Dress respectfully and check on site whether the interior spaces are accessible: do not assume visiting hours or services. Admission may be free; allow €0–5 for a small donation if you wish.
After the stop, allow enough time to return to the port and leave a suitable buffer before the ferry.
