Verona is a city where Roman history, medieval architecture, and the elegance of its squares intertwine at every turn. From the Arena to the views over the Adige and the places linked to the legend of Juliet, it offers a journey rich in beauty and atmosphere.

This 1st-century Roman amphitheater is the symbol of the city and one of the best preserved in the world. In summer it hosts famous opera performances, but it is worth visiting in every season.
The courtyard and the famous balcony evoke the love story made immortal by Shakespeare. The tradition is evocative, even if the connection between the place and the literary tale is partly the result of a tourist construction.
It stands on the site of the ancient Roman forum and is surrounded by historic palaces, frescoed facades, and market stalls. It is an ideal place to stop and watch the lively city center.
The 14th-century fortress of the Scaligeri houses an important civic museum, with works of art and historical collections. The nearby Scaligero Bridge offers one of the most scenic walks along the Adige.
This Roman bridge crosses the Adige with a succession of arches rebuilt over the centuries. From the riverbank, there is a splendid view of the river and the hills surrounding Verona.
A masterpiece of Veronese Romanesque architecture, the basilica is famous for its tuff and marble facade and its great rose window, the Wheel of Fortune. Inside are important works of art and a serene atmosphere.

Verona’s historic center is easy to explore on foot, though some streets are cobbled. To reach more distant neighborhoods, you can use the city buses, buying your ticket before boarding or through the operator’s official channels. Verona Porta Nuova station is linked to the center by several bus lines and by a walk of about half an hour. If you arrive by plane, check the connections between the airport and the station in advance. In the center, traffic and parking can be limited: if you’re traveling by car, check the restricted traffic zones and consider leaving it in an outlying car park.
Spring and early autumn are ideal for visiting Verona, with generally mild temperatures and pleasant days. Summer brings many events, but it can be hot and crowded, especially during the opera season at the Arena. In winter the atmosphere is quieter, with markets and Christmas events, but the days are cold and damp. To attend a show or visit the most popular monuments, book ahead.
To taste Veronese cuisine, look for trattorias and osterias in the center and in less-frequented neighborhoods, where you’ll often find traditional dishes such as risotto all’Amarone, pastissada de caval, and gnocchi. Pair your meal with a local wine, for example Valpolicella or Soave. For a casual lunch, you can choose a place serving cicchetti or a sandwich, while the most central squares are convenient for a break but often more touristy. Check opening hours: many restaurants close between lunch and dinner.
