The center of Turin is easy to explore on foot, among squares, arcades and museums. For longer distances, you can use the metro, trams and buses operated by GTT, checking routes and schedules before setting out. Buy your ticket through official channels or at the machines and validate it as instructed, as checks are frequent. To reach the city center from Caselle Airport, rail and bus connections are available.
Spring and early autumn are pleasant times to explore the city on foot, with generally mild temperatures. Summer can be hot, while in winter the days are cold and sometimes foggy: bring clothing suited to the season. During trade fairs and events, such as the Turin International Book Fair, the city can be busier and accommodations may sell out in advance.
To sample Piedmontese cuisine, look for trattorias and osterias serving agnolotti, tajarin, vitello tonnato and braised beef, as well as traditional sweets like gianduiotto. The Quadrilatero Romano offers plenty of venues, while Porta Palazzo market is an interesting stop for discovering local products and flavors. For an aperitivo, try a historic bar in the center or one of the city’s wine bars; on weekends, booking is recommended.
