Discover Prague’s main historic sights by following a walking route from the medieval center to Castle Hill.
08:30
Old Town Square
Start the day in the most scenic square in the city center, among Gothic and Baroque facades, the Church of Our Lady before Týn, and the Jan Hus monument. In the morning it’s easier to get your bearings and admire the architectural details before the crowds arrive; the square is freely accessible.
Arrive a few minutes early so you can enjoy the square with fewer visitors.
09:15
Astronomical Clock and Town Hall Tower
Head to the clock on the façade of the Old Town Hall and take a moment to read the dials, which also show astronomical positions. If you want a rooftop view, consider climbing the tower: admission is roughly in the 300–400 CZK range, to be checked on the official website. Allow about 45–60 minutes for the visit.
The clock shows at regular intervals, but crowds can make it hard to see well.
10:30
Jewish Quarter and museum
Continue on foot to Josefov, just a few minutes from the square, and spend your time visiting the historic synagogues and the Old Jewish Cemetery included in the museum circuit. For a relaxed visit, allow about 1 hour and 45 minutes; the combined ticket may cost around 500–700 CZK, with weekly closures and holidays to check before you go.
Check the opening hours: on Saturdays and during some Jewish holidays, the sites may be closed.
12:30
Lunch between Old Town and Josefov
Stop at a trattoria or a traditional beer hall in the area, choosing a Czech dish such as svíčková or goulash. A simple meal costs roughly 250–450 CZK, while a beer can add about 60–100 CZK; places on the main squares tend to be more expensive.
Move one or two streets away from the most touristy squares to find more options.
13:45
Charles Bridge
Reach the bridge with about a 15-minute walk and cross it toward Malá Strana, pausing to admire the statues, the gateway towers, and views of the Vltava. Crossing takes about 20–30 minutes without stops; with photos and crowds, allow more time.
Keep your belongings safe and watch out for pickpockets in the busiest spots.
14:30
Malá Strana and Lennon Wall
Explore the streets of Malá Strana and head to the Lennon Wall, just a short distance from the bridge: the graffiti changes over time and reflects the history of a place that has become a symbol of freedom and expression. The walk is free, and you can add a stop at a café, with drinks priced roughly from 70–160 CZK.
Respect the spaces and local signs: not all nearby surfaces are meant for graffiti.
15:30
Prague Castle and St. Vitus Cathedral
Reach the Castle on foot along the uphill streets, or take tram 22 from Malostranské náměstí to the Pražský hrad stop if you want to save energy. With an arrival at 15:30, dedicate about 2 hours mainly to the courtyards and exteriors, also taking in St. Vitus Cathedral: this time does not allow for a full indoor circuit before closing. If you want to spend about 2 hours on the interiors, move the visit earlier to before 14:00 from November to March or before 15:00 from April to October, reorganizing the earlier walks. The indoor circuit costs roughly 450–600 CZK; courtyards and outdoor areas are partly accessible without a ticket.
Interiors open until 16:00 from November to March and until 17:00 from April to October. Last entry to St. Vitus is 15:40 and 16:40 respectively; on Sundays it opens at 12:00. With an arrival at 15:30, focus on the courtyards and exteriors and check for any restrictions on the official website.
18:30
Dinner in Malá Strana
Head down to Malá Strana to end the day with dinner in a beer hall or neighborhood restaurant. Budget around 350–700 CZK for a main course and a drink, depending on the venue; getting back to the center can be done on foot by crossing Charles Bridge again or by tram.
If you return by tram, buy your ticket before boarding and validate it according to the instructions.
