Getting around
Metro line 1, with a stop in Kallithea, connects the neighborhood with Piraeus and central Athens. Tavros station can also be convenient, depending on where you are staying. Buses serve the main roads and are useful for reaching areas not close to the metro; check updated timetables and routes before you set off. For short trips, walking is often practical, but consider the summer heat and the distance between the center of the neighborhood and the sea. By car, traffic and parking can be challenging, especially during rush hour.
When to go
Spring and autumn are the most pleasant times to visit Kallithea and get around on foot, with generally mild temperatures. Summer is hot and sunny: plan visits for the cooler hours and bring water, a hat, and sunscreen. Winter is quieter, but it can be rainy.
Where to eat
In Kallithea you’ll find tavernas, meze spots, bakeries, and restaurants serving a variety of cuisines, reflecting the neighborhood’s vibrant community. Look around the shopping streets and squares, where many locals also gather. For an informal meal, try souvlaki or the dish of the day; at peak times, it can be wise to book ahead at the most popular restaurants.
Quick tips
- 01Check the nearest stop to your accommodation: the neighborhood is large and not all areas are within short distance of Kallithea station.
- 02Buy or top up your public transport ticket before boarding and make sure it is valid for the planned route.
- 03In summer, bring water and sunscreen, especially if you walk between the neighborhood center and the coastal area.
- 04For meals, also try places frequented by locals and check opening hours: some restaurants may be less active outside the usual meal times.
Wake up in the right place.
